Clearer Skin with the Primal Diet

Occasionally I read the Epic Beauty Guide,  a blog about having beautiful skin and not too surprisingly, the author, Stephanie, follows and recommends a paleo diet. Click on the link to see what she eats and what she avoids. Stephanie also refers to a study  that says people in non-westernized countries rarely have acne:
In westernized societies, acne vulgaris is a nearly universal skin disease afflicting 79% to 95% of the adolescent population. In men and women older than 25 years, 40% to 54% have some degree of facial acne, and clinical facial acne persists into middle age in 12% of women and 3% of men. Epidemiological evidence suggests that acne incidence rates are considerably lower in nonwesternized societies. Herein we report the prevalence of acne in 2 nonwesternized populations: the Kitavan Islanders of Papua New Guinea and the Aché hunter-gatherers of Paraguay.
Additionally, we analyze how elements in nonwesternized environments may influence the development of acne. Of 1200 Kitavan subjects examined (including 300 aged 15-25 years), no case of acne (grade 1 with multiple comedones or grades 2-4) was observed. Of 115 Aché subjects examined (including 15 aged 15-25 years) over 843 days, no case of active acne (grades 1-4) was observed.
The astonishing difference in acne incidence rates between nonwesternized and fully modernized societies cannot be solely attributed to genetic differences among populations but likely results from differing environmental factors. Identification of these factors may be useful in the treatment of acne in Western populations.(from Colorado State University in Ft Collins)
Check out this blog post by a young man whose skin cleared up remarkably after just one month on the paleo diet: My 1 Month Paleo Diet Results (with before and after pictures). Another young man wrote that his skin is also better on the paleo diet (no pictures).

At my age, I am not bothered by acne, but I wish I had known this 40-45 years ago! It makes sense of course, that our skin reflects our diet. Just search "skin reflects health" and see all the articles about having healthy-looking skin by following the standard recommendations to get enough rest, exercise, drink water, and eat healthy food.

I think it's that last tip --"eat healthy food" that we don't really understand: healthy food doesn't come in a box, or last on a shelf for months. It doesn't come in a bag at a fast-food restaurant or even in a foil wrapper at the "health food" store. It contains no chemicals. It doesn't need anything added to it in a laboratory.

Healthy Food comes out of the ground, or eats what comes from the ground, and spoils quickly.
It is the Paleo/Primal diet:
naturally-grown meat, poultry, eggs, and
organic vegetables and fruits,
with water (filtered to remove the chlorine) to drink.
Thank you for reading! I hope you will be encouraged to investigate the Primal Lifestyle for yourself. For more information, see the "Learn" section under the tab at the top.
